Birchbox | May 2016

I received my May Birchbox subscription box this week. If you are unfamiliar, this box is $10 a month for 5 deluxe sample size products (and sometimes full size products). I’ve been underwhelmed the last two months with the products I have received. I have gotten a lot of hair care items, such as foil packets of shampoo and conditioner; that’s not even a deluxe sample! Anyway, this month I received mostly body care. And yet another month where I got a sunscreen. Ugh! I have not tried any of these products yet, but when I do, I’ll let you know if there are any stand-outs in a monthly favorites.

The body care items include Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel for Body. This is a very small sample. When I pushed the product to the top, there is not even a 1/4 inside…what’s that about? (Full size is $34). But I will be using this on my feet this week in preparation for our trip to Hawaii next week. Then, for the second month in a row, I got a sunscreen. This month it is the MD Solar Sciences Mineral Moisture Defense SPF 50 for Body (full size is $39). I will bring this to Hawaii and pray my body doesn’t react negatively to it as it sometimes can to SPF. Last of the body care items includes Vita Liberata Fabulous Self-Tanning Gradual Lotion (Full size $30). I’ll probably hold off on using this product until after Hawaii, as I don’t want to look orange in my wedding pictures!

The last two items in the box include a dry shampoo and bronzer/blush duo. The dry shampoo is from amika and full size is $24. I like this brand and am hoping this works for my hair. The Cargo blush and bronzer is very small. However, the bronzer is very pigmented and smooth. The blush leaves something to be desired as it took several swipes to get this swatch in the picture. The full size of this retails for $35.

Overall, I am not entirely impressed with what I have received; however, I haven’t actually tried any of these products yet. I am excited to get my first Sephora Play box this month, and if the products in that prove to be better than Birchbox, I will cancel this monthly subscription. What products did you get in your subscription services this month, and are you happy with what you got? xoxo
