I recently received my Sephora Play box and wanted to share what I got. Scrolling through Instagram, it seems there was a variety of products in people’s boxes this month, which is great! While I love Sephora and have been enjoying this service, I was not impressed with this month’s box. I recently subscribed to Beauty Hero’s which sends a full size product (usually double the price of the box) with a side kick product, which is usually a large deluxe sample. This service aims to send natural, clean, and non-toxic products. With this being said, I think I’ll give Sephora one or two more months, then I’m going to cancel if I continue not enjoying what I receive.
This month I received two skin care items: tarte FRXXTION Stick and Farmacy Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask. I am interested in Farmacy and this product, but the tarte product is not something I am interested in. I might try it, but it might end up going to my sister.
Then I received two makeup products: Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey and AmorePacific Color Control Cushion Compact (in shades 104 Tan Blush and 106 Almond Blush). These are super disappointing to me. I recently decluttered this lipstick, and now I have another! Ugh…And the foundation shades are way too dark for me. While this doesn’t work for me, I am happy that Sephora is including darker tones for medium to dark skinned girls. I’m going to give the lipstick a second chance, but going to pass on the foundation.
Lastly, I received the Ouai Treatment Masque (for hair). While this smells nice and seems interesting, the bottle is only 1/4 full! What a rip! I think that is so shady and not impressive at all! And the fragrance sample is from Tori Burch and is a floral, fresh scent, which is nice, but not going to be a favorite for me.
Overall, this box was a major dud for me. What did you think of your box?
I thought I would share a few of my favorite things and experiences from the past year. Check it out! xoxox
Happy birthday to me! Today is my 30th birthday. Yikes…I feel slightly old. Yet, I definitely feel more comfortable with who I am today than when I was 20. I decided to break my no buy to treat myself to the Sephora birthday gift. (FYI I think I’ll pass on the Ulta gift as it’s a primer this year, and I have so many deluxe samples of face primers right now.) While I did break my no buy, I made the conscious effort to only purchase cleanly formulated products. I opted for Lavanilla’s Vanilla Grapefruit deodorant. I’m not sure how I feel about this. In the winter, I think it will be okay, but when it becomes hotter than Hades in Georgia this summer, I know it won’t cut it!
The Sephora birthday gift this year can be chosen between three brands (Jack Black, Caudalie, and Tarte). I chose Tarte. While Tarte isn’t completely clean, it’s a better option than some other brands. I also got an RMS lip2cheek color in Spell (this is $25 online, as opposed to $36, which all the other lip2cheeks are listed as).
Lastly, I got the new Bite Perfect Pair lip kit in Rhubarb and Thistle. I absolutely love Rhubarb. A great rosy color. Thistle is a little too gray for my skin tone but works when I layer the two together.
I did use a code to get a hydration kit of samples. I ended up dispersing the majority of them to my mom and sisters, and only kept two: belif true cream and Brazilian Bum Bum cream (heard great things about this). I chose three samples: two Tom Ford fragrances and Sephora eye makeup remover wipes.
This weekend we are having a 90s themed house party. I’m so excited! It will a dance party with all my friends and family. I have a killer outfit already planned out. I will share a post of the outfit, makeup, and hair with pictures next week. Stay tuned!
I’m starting a new project pan challenge and wanted to share it with you! Check out what palette(s) I am panning for 2017.
Happy New Year! I know many people have already shared their goals/resolutions and outlook for this new year. I wanted to do the same. I tend to prefer the word goals instead of resolutions as goals seem more feasible and can either be short or long term. I don’t know if I have ever been successful at a resolution, but know I have met many of my goals in the past.
I wanted to keep it simple this year with healthy living goals and beauty goals.
- Drink more water…doesn’t everyone have this as a goal!
- Practice yoga 3 times a week.
- Transition home products (mostly cleaning supplies) to non-toxic products.
- Focus on the makeup I have. This includes more project panning to enjoy the products in my stash and help to move them out. I aim to have a more curated collection of products I love. This will take years, but I want to start in 2017.
- Come off hormonal birth control. We want to start expanding our family in the fall, and I need to transition off B.C. this spring to make sure my cycles are regular to conceive more easily.
- Explore acupuncture and crystal healing.
- Treat myself to more massages. This is a fun one, but also healthy. While spending less on makeup each month, I can use that money to improve my health through massages and possibly acupuncture.
- No spend on makeup! I have already broken this one, but it is my birthday this month, and I wanted my Sephora birthday gift (first world probs). I purchased a few products (all non-toxic) as a gift to myself. I will share this in an upcoming haul! So after my birthday, I will resume my no spend! 😛
- When I do need to purchase skincare, body care, hair care, and makeup, review ingredients and opt for non-toxic products.
I thought about rounding this out to 10, but decided the 9 were sufficient. I know the hardest goals will be my yoga practice and drinking more water. I have a problem with diet coke! But I think the purpose of this is to create intention. And that is what I want to live by this year in all aspects of my life: personal, school, work, and this blog:
Today I wanted to share the products I will be working on for a project pan challenge. I hope to finish these 8 products up by March 20th for “Finish 7 By Spring.” (I am combining two products as they are almost gone anyway). Check out the video below to see the introduction to this challenge!
I have a special additional post this week, and it is a new project pan collaboration called Sweet On Project Pan. I’m excited to join in on this challenge for such a fun and sweet project!
